🌡️ Temperature Converter

Enter a temperature and pick its scale — Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin all update instantly.

Why temperature needs an offset, not a factor

Most units convert with a single multiplication. Temperature scales do not, because their zero points differ: water freezes at 0 °C but at 32 °F. Each conversion is a stretch plus a shift:

°F = (°C × 9 / 5) + 32
°C = (°F - 32) × 5 / 9
K  = °C + 273.15

The tool converts your entry to Celsius first, then out to the other two. So 180 °C becomes (180 × 9 / 5) + 32 = 356 °F and 453.15 K, and 98.6 °F becomes (98.6 - 32) × 5 / 9 = 37 °C.

A temperature and a temperature difference do not convert the same way. A room at 10 °C is 50 °F, but a rise of 10 °C is a rise of 18 °F, because a change has no zero point to shift. Anything below -273.15 °C is rejected here rather than converted: nothing can be colder than absolute zero.

Frequently asked questions

What is 180 C in Fahrenheit?

356 F, the moderate oven setting most British and European recipes assume. American recipes usually round it to 350 F, which is 176.7 C and close enough for baking.

What temperature is the same in Celsius and Fahrenheit?

Minus 40. It is the one point where the two scales meet, so -40 C and -40 F are the same cold. Above it Fahrenheit reads higher, below it Fahrenheit reads lower.

How do I convert Celsius to Kelvin?

Add 273.15. There is no stretching involved because a kelvin is exactly the same size as a degree Celsius, so 25 C is 298.15 K. Kelvin is written without a degree sign.
