🔄 Annual Subscription Cost Converter
Convert between monthly and annual subscription pricing — useful for comparing a monthly plan against an annual plan's effective monthly rate.
One multiply, or one divide
Choose a direction and type a single figure. The tool applies one of two lines:
annual = monthly × 12
monthly = annual ÷ 12
The default $15.99 a month returns $191.88 a year; an annual plan of $139.99 comes back as $11.67 a month. Results are rounded to two decimals, so the monthly figure will not always multiply back exactly - $100 a year shows as $8.33, and twelve payments of $8.33 total $99.96.
Judging an annual plan against a monthly one
The converter moves a price between billing periods; it does not know what any service charges. The comparison needs two prices you look up and one subtraction:
- Run the monthly price through Monthly → Annual to see what twelve separate payments cost. At $15.99 that is $191.88.
- Subtract the advertised annual price. A yearly plan at $159.99 saves $31.89, or 16.6% - about two months free, the usual shape of these discounts.
- An ad-supported tier usually moves more money than any annual discount. A $7.99 ad tier is $95.88 a year against $191.88 ad-free: a $96 gap, three times the annual saving above.
Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to pay yearly for a streaming service?
Normally yes, by roughly 10-20% where a yearly plan is offered at all, but only if you keep it the whole year. Convert the monthly price to annual, compare with the advertised yearly price, and treat the difference as the cost of committing.
What is $139.99 a year per month?
$11.67 a month. Divide the annual price by 12. That is the number to set beside the monthly plan price - not beside your bank statement, since you are still paying the whole $139.99 up front.
Does twelve times the monthly price equal what I will actually pay?
Only if nothing changes. A mid-year price rise, a month you cancel, or a promotional rate that expires after three months all break the multiplication. Treat $191.88 as the cost of twelve months at today's price, not a forecast.
