Pages, rounded up
pages needed = ceiling(total photos / photos per page)
45 photos at 4 per page is 11.25, rounded up to 12 - and the twelfth page carries a single photo. Any remainder buys a whole page. To fill every page, drop to 3 per page for 15 pages, or set the count to 44 or 48.
What "page" means here
- Pages, not protectors or spreads. A page protector takes one page on each side, so those 12 pages are 6 protectors. Scrapbookers who design in facing pairs get 6 spreads out of the same number.
- Album capacity is separate. A 12 x 12 post-bound or strap album usually ships with 10 to 20 protectors - 20 to 40 pages - and takes refills up to a spine limit. Double the box's protector count before comparing it with the figure here.
- Photos per page is smaller than it looks. A 12 x 12 page is 144 sq in and four 4 x 6 prints use 96 of them, which sounds roomy until you mat each print on cardstock. A 1/4 in mat all round makes each 4.5 x 6.5, or 117 sq in of the page, leaving little for a title.
Frequently asked questions
How many photos fit on a 12 x 12 scrapbook page?
Four 4 x 6 prints if they are matted lightly and the journalling is small, or two to three if you want a title block and space around them. Six or more only works with 3 x 4 or wallet-sized prints.
How many pages does a scrapbook album hold?
Most 12 x 12 albums come with 10 to 20 page protectors, which is 20 to 40 sides. Post-bound and strap albums accept refills until the spine is full; three-ring binders take the most.
Does the count include the back of each sheet?
Yes - the tool counts single sides. Halve the answer to get the protectors or refill sheets to order, and the same halved figure is the number of facing-page spreads.
