📅 Workdays Calculator

Add or subtract business days (Monday–Friday) from a start date. Public holidays are not accounted for automatically — only weekends are skipped.

What it counts

Give it a start date and a number of working days, and it steps forward one day at a time, skipping Saturdays and Sundays, until it has counted out the number you asked for. The start date itself is not counted — day one is the next working day, which is how deadlines are normally expressed.

Public holidays are not excluded. The tool has no way to know which country or state you are in, and holiday calendars differ even between regions of the same country. Add them yourself: for a 10-working-day deadline that spans two bank holidays, ask for 12.

Why weekday counting is worth a tool

The awkward part is that the answer depends on which weekday you start from. Ten working days added to a Monday lands two weeks later on a Monday. Ten added to a Thursday lands on a Thursday sixteen calendar days away, because it crosses three weekends rather than two.

Counting on a wall calendar works until a month boundary or a leap year gets involved, and those are exactly the cases people get wrong.

Working days are not the same everywhere

This tool assumes the Monday-to-Friday week used across Europe, the Americas and most of Asia. Several countries do not use it:

If a deadline has legal weight, read how the contract or statute defines a business day before relying on any calculator.

Common uses

Frequently asked questions

Does the start date count as day one?

No. Counting begins on the next working day, which matches how notice periods and delivery windows are normally written. If your rule counts the start date, subtract one from the number you enter.

Are public holidays excluded?

No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Add one working day to your request for each public holiday the period crosses.

What does 10 business days mean in calendar days?

Fourteen calendar days if you start on a Monday, and sixteen if you start on a Thursday, because the second case spans an extra weekend. That variation is exactly why the question needs a calculator.

Can I count backwards from a deadline?

Not directly. This tool adds days going forward. To work backwards, estimate a start date, add your working days, and adjust until you land on the deadline.

Does it handle leap years and month ends?

Yes. It steps through real dates rather than doing arithmetic on day numbers, so month lengths and leap days are handled correctly.
