⏳ Event Countdown Timer
Set a target date and time to see a live countdown. This is a general-purpose countdown to any event — for a specific countdown to your next birthday, see the Age Calculator instead.
How the remaining time is split
Every second the timer takes the gap in milliseconds between now and your target, then carves it into fixed blocks:
diff = target - now
days = floor(diff / 86400000)
hours = floor((diff % 86400000) / 3600000)
minutes = floor((diff % 3600000) / 60000)
seconds = floor((diff % 60000) / 1000)
Midnight on 1 January 2027, read from 8 September 2026, is 115 days away. The gap is recalculated from the clock on every tick rather than decremented, so sleeping the machine does not make it drift.
Timezones, DST and dates in the past
- The target date and time are read in your timezone, not the event's. For a launch quoted in UTC or another zone, convert it first or the countdown will be out by the offset.
- A day here is a flat 24 hours. If a daylight saving change falls between now and the target, the wall clock moves by an hour and the day figure will tick over an hour earlier or later than you expect.
- Pass the target and the timer keeps going, relabelled as time since the event.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until New Year?
From 8 September 2026 it is 115 days to 1 January 2027. The timer opens on next New Year's Day by default, so it answers this without any input.
Which timezone does the countdown use?
Your device's. Two people in different countries loading the same target date see counts that differ by their offset, because each is counting to local midnight on that date.
Can I count down to a time, not just a date?
Yes - the time field sits beside the date and defaults to 00:00. Set the exact hour and minute and the seconds column lines up with the real moment.
