🎒 Disc Bag Capacity Calculator

Enter your bag's rated disc capacity and how many discs you currently carry to see how much room is left.

How the space left is worked out

Two subtractions, one of them clamped so the answer never goes negative:

remaining = max(0, capacity - current)
over      = current > capacity ? current - capacity : 0

At the defaults, a 20-disc bag holding 14 discs leaves 6 slots. Push the count to 24 and the remaining line stays at 0 rather than showing -4; an extra row appears instead, reading "Over capacity by 4 discs". Both boxes treat a blank as zero.

What a rated capacity actually holds

A common split for a bag of about 20 is four to six putters, three to five midranges, four to six fairway drivers and four to six distance drivers. Nothing in the rules requires that mix, and plenty of players score well out of a six-disc shoulder bag.

This counts slots, not shapes. A bag that is technically within capacity can still be a nuisance to zip if half of it is wide-rim plastic.

Frequently asked questions

How many discs should a beginner carry?

Three to five is plenty: a putter, a midrange and one fairway driver will play every hole on most courses, and fewer choices makes each throw easier to learn from.

How many discs fit in a backpack disc golf bag?

Most backpack models are rated for roughly 18 to 25 in the main compartment, with two or three more in the putter pockets. Smaller sling bags usually hold 8 to 12.

Is there a limit on how many discs you can carry?

No rule caps it. The practical limits are the weight on your shoulders and how long you want to spend choosing between two drivers that fly almost alike.
