📥 Game Collection Backlog Tracker
Add your games and mark which ones you've actually played to see your backlog — games you own but haven't gotten to the table yet.
One percentage, from two counts
Every row is a game and the tick means you have played it. The tracker counts the unticked rows against the total:
backlog % = unplayed games / games owned × 100
The four sample games start at two unplayed, so 2 / 4 = 50.0%. Tick Gloomhaven and it drops to 25.0%, because with four games each one is worth 25 percentage points. That sensitivity fades fast: at 20 games a single play moves the figure by 5 points, and at 100 games by one.
Using it on a real shelf
- Add a row per game, not per box. Expansions ride with the base game unless you genuinely think of them as separate purchases; counting them apart inflates both the total and the backlog.
- The tick is all or nothing. A game played once and shelved counts the same as one played fifty times, so the number tells you what has reached the table, not what has earned its place.
- The card lists every game with its status above the summary row, which makes it usable as a pick-something-tonight shortlist.
- The badge rounds to whole percent while the row keeps one decimal, so 1 unplayed out of 6 shows as 16.7% and 17%.
Frequently asked questions
What is a board game backlog?
The games you own that have never been played - the shelf of shame. It grows from sales and Kickstarter waves rather than from buying badly, which is why it is worth measuring as a share rather than a count.
How do I get my backlog down?
Play one unplayed game per session instead of a favourite. A 20-game shelf with 8 unplayed sits at 40%; two nights of that rule takes it to 30%, and the games that stay unplayed after a few rounds are the ones to sell.
Does a game I have played once count as played?
Here, yes - the checkbox is binary. If you want to know which games are actually earning their shelf space, the cost per play calculator divides the price by the sessions instead.
