🎒 Travel Packing List Generator
Choose your trip length, climate and trip type to build a customized packing checklist you can check off as you pack.
Eight essentials, plus whatever the trip demands
The list is assembled from four parts, and the clothing line is deliberately capped at a week:
list = clothing + 8 base items + climate block + trip-type block
clothing outfits = min(days, 7)
Five mild-climate leisure days produce 14 ticks; switch to cold and camping and it becomes 19. The cap is the point: a 14-day trip gets the same seven outfits as a seven-day one, because past a week you launder rather than carry. Changing any input redraws the list, so tick the boxes last.
The four things people forget
- Liquids in the cabin. Containers of 100 ml or 3.4 oz in one clear litre bag. CT scanners have relaxed this at some airports and not others, and your return airport may be one of the strict ones.
- Power banks and spare lithium batteries fly in the cabin only. They are banned from checked bags outright, and several airlines now bar using or charging them in flight.
- An adapter is not a converter. It changes the plug shape, not 230 V into 120 V. Phone and laptop bricks handle both; a hairdryer or shaver usually does not.
- Medication crosses borders badly. Keep it in the cabin in labelled packaging - codeine, pseudoephedrine and stimulants are controlled or banned in Japan and the UAE whatever your prescription says.
Frequently asked questions
How many outfits should I pack for a two week trip?
Seven, and wash mid-trip. Past a week the extra clothing costs more in weight and bag fees than a laundrette does, and most apartments and hotels have a machine or a service.
Can I put a power bank in checked luggage?
No. Spare lithium batteries and power banks must travel in the cabin under IATA rules, because a fire in the hold cannot be reached. Installed batteries inside a device are treated differently.
What is the 3-1-1 rule for liquids?
Containers up to 3.4 oz or 100 ml, in one quart-sized clear bag, one bag each. Anything larger goes in the hold however little is left in it.
