🛂 Passport Expiry Validity Checker

Enter your passport expiry date and planned return date to check against the common requirement that a passport remain valid for a number of months beyond your travel dates. Always confirm exact requirements with your destination's official sources.

It counts from the day you come home

The check adds the required months to your return date, not your departure date, and measures how far your expiry sits beyond that:

required-by = return date + required months
margin = expiry date - required-by (in days)

Return on 10 November 2026 under the six-month rule and the passport must be valid to 10 May 2027; one expiring 1 August 2027 leaves an 83-day margin. Counting from the return date is the strict reading - many countries measure from entry, so a pass here passes everywhere.

Six months is common, not universal

Month arithmetic on month-end dates rolls forward: a return on 31 August plus six months lands on 3 March, not 28 February, so the tool is a day or three stricter than the rule. It also cannot know your nationality, your destination's actual requirement, or whether you need a visa or ETIAS.

Frequently asked questions

Can I travel with less than 6 months left on my passport?

To the UK, Ireland and a few others yes - they need validity only for the length of stay. Across most of Asia and the Middle East you will be refused at check-in, so treat six months as the default.

Does the 6-month rule apply to Europe?

Schengen uses three months beyond your intended departure, plus a passport issued within the previous ten years. Both must be true, and the ten-year test is the one people fail.

How early should I renew my passport?

About nine months out. That keeps you clear of the six-month rule for anything you book meanwhile, and leaves room for processing times that stretch whenever demand spikes.
