🔊 Text to Speech Player

Type or paste text and your browser will read it aloud using its built-in speech voices. Nothing is uploaded — playback happens entirely on your device.

The voices belong to your device

This page calls the browser's own speech engine, so the list under Voice is whatever your system already has installed. The same text will sound different on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, and a voice you pick at work may simply not exist at home. If the list shows only "Default voice", none were reported yet - in Chrome they can arrive a second late, so reopen the list.

Match the voice language to the text. There is no detection: an English voice handed a French sentence will read it with English rules and mangle it. Note too that the voices Chrome labels Google are produced on Google's servers, so those need a connection; the ones supplied by your operating system run offline.

Speed, pitch and the three buttons

There is no audio file to save - the sound is generated live by the operating system and this page never receives it, so it cannot offer an MP3 download. Very long passages are also cut short by some browsers; feed it a paragraph or two at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the speech as an MP3?

Not from here. The Web Speech API plays audio but does not hand it back to the page, so saving a file needs a recording tool on your computer or a server-based service.

Why does my voice list show only one or two options?

Because your system has only those installed. Windows adds more under Settings, Time and language, Speech; macOS under System Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content. New voices appear here after a reload.

Is my text sent anywhere?

The page uploads nothing, and a system voice speaks entirely on your machine. The exception is Chrome's Google-branded voices, which synthesise remotely - choose a local voice if the text is private.
