What gets reversed, character by character

The whole box is turned back to front in one pass, which reverses the order of the lines and the words as well as the letters inside them:

Hello World      ->  dlroW olleH

There is no separate word-order or line-order mode, so Hello World cannot become World Hello here - every word comes back spelled backwards.

Emoji and accents break, and why

Reversal works on UTF-16 units, the 16-bit pieces a browser stores text in, not on the characters you see. Most text is one unit per character and survives perfectly. Two kinds do not:

Anything above U+FFFF - emoji, rare CJK, many symbols - is stored as a surrogate pair. Reversing swaps the halves, so hi 😀 comes back as two broken boxes followed by ih. Flags and family emoji, built from several joined parts, scatter completely.
Combining accents drift onto the wrong letter. A precomposed é is one unit and is safe, but the decomposed form that macOS often produces - a plain e followed by a combining acute - reverses into the accent arriving first, where it lands on whatever now precedes it.

If your text contains emoji, swap them for a placeholder such as [1] before reversing and put them back afterwards. Nothing in the output can be un-reversed once the pairs are broken.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reverse the word order without spelling each word backwards?

This tool cannot do it: it reverses characters, and word order only changes as a side effect. Reversing twice gets you back where you started, so the individual words have to be flipped by hand.

Can I use it to check a palindrome?

Yes, but the comparison is exact. Racecar reversed is racecaR, and a sentence like was it a car or a cat I saw matches only after you remove the spaces and put it all in one case.

What do the four counters measure?

Characters counts UTF-16 units, so an emoji adds two. No Spaces strips every space, tab and newline. Words splits on whitespace, so well-known is one word. Lines ignores empty ones.
