💵 Stamp Collection Value Calculator

Add each stamp's catalog value or your own estimate to see your collection's total value.

How the total is built

Each row is one line item, and the tool adds the value boxes together. Nothing else is applied - no condition multiplier, no discount:

total = value(1) + value(2) + ... + value(n)

$5.00 + $12.50 + $3.25 = $20.75

The three rows on load are examples; overwrite them. + Add Stamp appends a row at $5 which you then edit, Remove deletes one, and the total updates on every keystroke. A blank value box counts as zero, and a row left unnamed is listed as "Stamp". Nothing is saved when you close the tab, so copy the total out if you need it.

What to put in the value box

Catalogue value - the figure in Scott, Stanley Gibbons or Michel - is the price the catalogue quotes for that stamp in the grade the catalogue specifies, and which a dealer might ask for a clean example. It is a standard for comparison, not what your copy is worth. What a stamp actually fetches turns on:

Catalogues set a minimum value - a few tens of cents - that covers a dealer's handling cost, not demand. Adding up 2,000 common stamps at the minimum produces a number no buyer will pay.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of catalogue value do stamps sell for?

Ordinary material commonly changes hands at 10 to 25 per cent of catalogue, and dealers buying to resell offer less again. Scarce stamps in top grade are the exception and can beat catalogue.

Is this an appraisal of my collection?

No. It totals the numbers you type. For insurance or a sale, a philatelic valuer or auction house has to see the stamps, because condition is judged in hand.

Does a hinge mark reduce a stamp's value?

On mint stamps, sharply - never-hinged is a separate, higher grade in every major catalogue. On used stamps a hinge remnant matters far less than the cancel and the centring.
