🌐 Favicon Generator
Upload a square image (ideally at least 512×512) to generate favicons in every common size for browsers, iOS home screens and Android. Download each size individually.
What each size is for
Nothing is uploaded. Your file is read on the device and redrawn nine times onto canvases of 16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 180, 192 and 512 pixels square, each exported as a PNG you save individually.
| Size | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| 16, 32 | Browser tab and bookmark bar |
| 48, 64 | Windows shortcuts, high-DPI tabs |
| 96, 128 | Desktop shortcuts, extension listings |
| 180 | iOS home screen (apple-touch-icon) |
| 192, 512 | Android and the web app manifest |

Feeding it the right source
- Start at 512×512 or larger. Every size is scaled down from the one file you give it, so a 64-pixel source blown up to 512 stays blurry.
- Non-square images are stretched, not cropped. The picture is drawn to fill each square, so a 1200×600 banner comes out squashed to half its width. Crop to a square before you start.
- Transparency survives. Output is PNG, so an alpha background stays clear rather than turning white.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a favicon be?
32×32 is what browsers actually show in the tab. Ship 32, 180 and 512 and you have covered desktop tabs, the iOS home screen and Android; the other sizes are there for shortcuts and older cases.
Does this make a favicon.ico file?
No, every download is a PNG. Current browsers accept PNG icons through <link rel="icon">, so .ico is only needed for very old Internet Explorer. Rename or convert separately if your host insists on one.
Why does my logo come out stretched?
Because the source is not square. Each canvas is filled edge to edge, so a wide image is compressed horizontally rather than cropped or padded. Square the artwork first, adding transparent margin if needed.
