📊 Closet Percentage Full Calculator

See how full your closet or storage space is based on items stored versus estimated capacity.

How the percentage is worked out

It is one division, with the displayed figure held at 100 so the bar never reads past full:

percentage full = min(items stored / capacity × 100, 100)

The starting numbers, 45 items against a capacity of 60, give 75.0 percent. Put 70 items into that same 60-item closet and the headline still says 100.0 percent, but the detail row adds "over capacity!" - that flag is how you tell a full closet from an overstuffed one, because the number alone cannot show it.

Setting a realistic capacity

The capacity box is your judgement, not a measurement, and everything depends on it. Count what the space holds when clothes still slide freely and you can see every item, rather than the absolute maximum you could cram in. Two ways to get there:

Keep the unit consistent. If capacity is in garments, do not count a pair of shoes or a storage box as one item; either measure both sides in garments or run the tool once per category.

Capacity is forced to at least 1. Clear the box and the calculation divides by 1, so any stored count shows as a capped 100 percent - type a real capacity before reading the result.

Frequently asked questions

How full should a closet be?

Around 80 percent. That leaves room to slide hangers, put laundry back without forcing it, and add a few seasonal items without a reshuffle.

Why does it stop at 100 percent?

The display is capped so the figure stays readable. When you are past full the percentage row says "over capacity!" instead of showing 117 percent.

How many items should I remove to hit a target?

Multiply capacity by your target and subtract. For 60 items at 80 percent that is 48, so a closet holding 70 needs 22 items out.
