🎓 GPA Calculator

Add each course's letter grade and credit hours to calculate your grade point average on the standard 4.0 scale. Check "Honors/AP" on a course to add a 0.5 weight bonus for a weighted GPA.

The scale and the arithmetic

Every letter is converted to grade points, an Honors/AP course adds 0.5 to that figure, and each course counts in proportion to its credit hours:

quality points = (grade points + honors bonus) x credit hours
GPA = total quality points / total credit hours
GradePointsGradePointsGradePoints
A+, A4.0B3.0C-1.7
A-3.7B-2.7D+1.3
B+3.3C+2.3D1.0
C2.0D-, F0.7, 0.0

An A in a 3 credit course and a B+ in a 4 credit one give 12.0 and 13.2 quality points, so 25.2 over 7 credits is a GPA of 3.600. Tick Honors on the second course and it becomes 15.2 points and a 3.886.

Where your school may differ

Credit hours accept halves, and the GPA is shown to three decimals because transcripts and scholarship cut-offs are often decided in the third place.

Frequently asked questions

What is my GPA with an A and a B plus?

3.600 if the A is worth 3 credits and the B+ 4. Unequal credits move it: the same two grades at 4 and 3 credits give 3.700, because the A now carries more of the average.

How much does one honors course raise a GPA?

The 0.5 bonus is diluted by everything else you are taking. Across 7 credit hours, marking one 4 credit course as honors lifts a 3.600 to 3.886; across a 60 credit transcript the same course adds about 0.033.

What counts as a good GPA?

3.0 is the usual bar for good standing and many scholarships, 3.5 and above reads as strong, and most programmes treat below 2.0 as academic probation. Graduate admissions weigh your major courses more heavily than the overall figure.
