📋 Multi-Volunteer Hour Log Tracker
Log hours for multiple volunteers and see totals at a glance — total hours logged and the estimated in-kind dollar value across everyone.
What the totals add up
Each row is one person's hours for the period you are reporting on. The summary sums them and applies a single rate:
total hours = sum of every volunteer's hours
value = total hours × value per hour
Three people logging 10, 6 and 4 hours give 20 hours, which at the $33.49 default is $669.80 of donated time. Hours step in halves, so a 90-minute shift is 1.5.
The rate, and what the log does not do
- Where $33.49 comes from: it is Independent Sector's estimated national value of a volunteer hour for 2023, published in April 2024 and built from average private non-farm hourly earnings plus a fringe uplift. A new figure appears each spring and state values vary widely, so type in the current one for your state.
- One rate covers everyone here. Skilled pro bono work - a lawyer drafting a lease, an accountant closing your books - is normally valued at that profession's going rate. Run those people separately.
- Nothing is saved. Rows live in the page only and reloading clears them. There are no dates either, so this is a period total, not an audit trail - keep the signed sheets for that.
Frequently asked questions
How much is an hour of volunteer time worth?
Independent Sector put the national average at $33.49 an hour for 2023. It is an estimate from wage data, not a market price, and state-level figures vary widely around it.
How do I total volunteer hours across a team?
Add a row per person, enter each one's hours for the same period, and read the total hours line. Mixing a month for one volunteer with a year for another quietly inflates the total.
Can we count volunteer hours towards a grant match?
Sometimes, and the terms are the funder's. Awards that allow it usually want documented hours valued at what you would pay staff doing similar work, which is rarely the national average. Check the award conditions first.
