☁️ Word Cloud Generator

Paste text to see a word cloud — the more often a word appears, the bigger it renders. This is a separate, visual take on the same idea as the Word Frequency Counter, which shows a plain ranked list instead.

How a word earns its size

Type size is a straight line between the rarest and the commonest word currently on screen:

size = 0.9em + (count - smallest) / (largest - smallest) x 2.6em

In the sample text fox and dog appear three times and render at the 3.5em ceiling, lazy and quickly appear twice at 2.2em, and everything else sits on the 0.9em floor. Two things follow. The scale is relative, so raising max words shown pulls in rarer words, lowers the floor and rescales everything above it. And if every word occurs equally often, the whole cloud renders at the minimum size, because there is no spread to draw.

Colour is decoration. It cycles through a fixed palette in whatever order the words were shuffled into, and the shuffle is redone on every keystroke, so neither the hue nor the position carries meaning. Only size does. Hover a word to see its exact count.

What makes it into the cloud

The cloud is live text, not a picture, so there is no image to download - screenshot it, or take the numbers from the Word Frequency Counter if you need a table to paste.

Frequently asked questions

How much text does a word cloud need?

Enough for repetition to mean something - a few hundred words at least. Below that most words appear once, they all come out the same size, and the picture says nothing.

Why is one of my words missing?

It is a single letter, a common stopword, contains digits, or fell outside the max words limit. Raise that limit to see further down the ranking.

Can I download the cloud as a PNG?

Not directly. It is styled text in the page rather than a canvas, so a screenshot is the way to keep a copy.
