🌍 International Size Conversion Calculator
Enter a US women's clothing size to see approximate UK, EU, and international size equivalents. Sizing varies by brand — always check the specific brand's chart when possible.
The two offsets behind the table
The ten rows, US 0 to 18, step by two with two constant gaps:
UK = US + 4
EU = US + 32 = UK + 28
So US 8 returns UK 12 and EU 40, and US 16 returns UK 20 and EU 48. The letter column is coarser because it has to be: XS through XXL covers ten numbered sizes, so S spans US 4 and 6 and M spans US 8 and 10.
What the numbers do and do not tell you
- These are ready-to-wear sizes. A commercial sewing pattern marked size 8 is a different system, built on its own body chart and usually two or three sizes smaller than the shop label for the same body. Never carry a shop size onto a pattern envelope.
- EU numbering is not one system. The table uses the common UK-plus-28 convention. German numbering often runs a size or two below it and Italian a size or two above, so an EU 40 here can appear as 38 on a German label and 44 on an Italian one.
- Vanity sizing moves the goalposts. Shop sizes have drifted larger over decades and vary by brand, so one body wears three numbers in three shops.
Frequently asked questions
What is a US size 8 in UK sizes?
UK 12, and EU 40 on the numbering this table uses. The UK number is four higher than the US one right through the range, so US 4 is UK 8 and US 14 is UK 18.
Is a size 12 sewing pattern the same as a size 12 dress?
No. Pattern sizing is a separate, older scale that has not drifted the way shop sizing has, so a size 12 pattern usually fits someone who buys a 6 or 8 in shops. Measure yourself and use the envelope chart.
What EU size is a UK 14?
EU 42 here, matching US 10 and an international M. Check the garment's own bust and waist in centimetres before ordering, since Italian and German labels number the same body differently.
