💵 Pool Refill Cost Calculator

Estimate the cost of refilling or topping off your pool based on the gallons needed and your local water utility's rate.

Gallons, in thousands, times the rate

Water is sold in bulk units, so the volume is divided by a thousand before the rate is applied:

cost = (gallons / 1000) × rate per 1,000 gallons

The defaults - 2,000 gallons at $5.50 - come to $11.00. A full 20,000 gallon fill at the same rate is $110.00. The result is rounded to cents, and either box left empty is treated as zero.

Getting your rate into the right unit

Few bills quote dollars per 1,000 gallons directly. Convert whatever yours uses:

Your bill saysTo get $ per 1,000 galExample
per CCF (100 cubic feet = 748 gal)divide by 0.748$4.11 → $5.49
per cubic metremultiply by 3.785$1.45 → $5.49
per 100 gallonsmultiply by 10$0.55 → $5.50
Two things can push the real bill above this figure. Most utilities charge in rising tiers, and a pool fill can shove a month's usage into the top one. Many also bill sewer service on metered water, so you may pay to "treat" water that never leaves the pool - ask whether a pool fill credit or a separate irrigation meter is available before you open the hose.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to fill a 20,000 gallon pool?

About $110 where water runs $5.50 per 1,000 gallons, and about $50 where it runs $2.50. The spread between utilities is wider than most people assume, so use your own rate rather than a national average.

My bill is in CCF. What do I enter?

One CCF is 100 cubic feet, or 748 gallons. Divide your dollars per CCF by 0.748: a rate of $4.11 per CCF is $5.49 per 1,000 gallons.

Is a water delivery truck cheaper than the tap?

Usually not on the water itself, since a tanker load is priced per trip and includes the haul. It can still win where your top tier is punishing or a drought restriction blocks filling from the mains. Get a per load quote and divide it by the gallons delivered to compare.
