🔎 WHOIS Checker

Look up the public record behind a domain — the authoritative name servers it delegates to and the IP addresses it currently resolves to. Enter a bare domain such as example.com; subdomains and full URLs are trimmed automatically.

Press Enter or click the button to look it up.
Enter a domain name to see its public registration details.

What this returns, and what it does not

Your browser strips any scheme and path, then our server queries live DNS and returns two things: the authoritative name servers the domain delegates to, and the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses it currently resolves to. Registrar, creation date and expiry are not included - those come from the registry's own WHOIS or RDAP service, not from DNS.

example.com  ->  NS   a.iana-servers.net, b.iana-servers.net
                 A    93.184.215.14

The name servers are the useful half. They tell you who actually controls the zone, which is how you find out that a domain has been moved to Cloudflare, or that the registrar's parking servers are still answering because the transfer never finished.

Why WHOIS shows so little now

Since GDPR took effect in 2018, registrars redact the registrant's name, address, email and phone number for most domains, replacing them with a privacy service or a forwarding address. Registry data is also gradually moving from the old WHOIS protocol to RDAP, which returns structured JSON and gates personal fields behind authentication.

A result with no name servers usually means the domain is unregistered or was registered minutes ago and not yet delegated - not that it is available. Check with a registrar before assuming you can buy it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does WHOIS not show the owner of a domain?

Privacy law. Registrars redact registrant contact details for most domains, and many owners also pay for a privacy service that substitutes the provider's details. Only the registrar and, on a legal request, law enforcement see the real record.

How do I find out who hosts a domain?

Look at the name servers and the resolved addresses shown here. The name servers name the DNS provider, and the IP address belongs to the hosting network - run it through an IP geolocation lookup to see which organisation owns that range.

Does this show when a domain expires?

No. Expiry lives in the registry record, not in DNS, so it cannot be read from a name server. Use a dedicated domain expiry checker for that date.
