📋 Fitness Test Norms Reference
A quick filterable reference of common fitness test rating standards, from excellent to poor. General adult benchmarks — individual results vary.
Eight tests, five bands each
Nothing is calculated here. The page holds a fixed table of field-test rating bands for general adult populations and filters it as you type:
match = test name (lowercased) contains your text
bands = Excellent | Good | Average | Below Avg | Poor
counter = matching rows / 8 total rows
Type plank and one row survives; type run and you get
the two 1.5 mile rows. The filter reads the test name only, so "men"
narrows to the four sex-split rows and a number like "30" matches
nothing.
Reading a row
- The bands do not always meet. Good for men's push-ups ends at 35 and Excellent begins above 36, so exactly 36 sits in the gap.
- Timed runs invert. For push-ups and planks bigger is better; for the 1.5 mile run a lower time is better, so Excellent sits at <9:30 rather than above a number.
- Coverage is uneven. The run rows are age-banded to 20-29 only, and plank and sit-and-reach carry one set of numbers for everyone.
Frequently asked questions
How many push-ups should a man do in one minute?
22 to 28 is average on this table, 29 to 35 is good and more than 36 rates excellent. Fewer than 17 is poor. The women's row sits six to eight reps lower at each level.

90 to 150 seconds is rated good and anything past 150 seconds is excellent. Under 30 seconds is poor. This row is not split by sex or age.
What is a good 1.5 mile run time?
For men aged 20-29, under 9:30 is excellent and 10:30 to 12:00 is average. For women in the same age group the excellent mark is under 11:00 and average runs 12:30 to 14:30.
