Two things worth knowing before you split

Everyone paying the rounded share leaves you short or long. Four people at $25.49 hand over $101.96, a cent more than the bill. One person should absorb the difference rather than everyone adding a dollar.
Check whether the bill already includes tax. This tool tips on whatever number you enter. On an $86.40 total that includes 8.5% sales tax, the food was $79.63, so an 18% tip is $14.33 rather than $15.55 - the extra $1.22 is a tip on the state's revenue.

Look for a service charge on the printed bill before adding anything. Parties of six or more are often charged 18% automatically, and many card terminals still present a tip screen on top of it.
