📦 Multi-Container Batch Planner
Planning a batch across multiple container sizes? Add each container type with its fill weight and how many you're making to get your total wax needed.
Every container line, added up
Each row is multiplied out and the subtotals are summed, then converted to pounds for ordering:
row subtotal = fill weight (g) × quantity
total = sum of subtotals
pounds = total / 453.592
The two rows loaded by default — twelve 8 oz jars at 191 g and twenty-four 4 oz tins at 95 g — are 2,292 g and 2,280 g, so 4,572 g or 10.08 lb. Add a row for each size you are pouring; empty rows contribute nothing.
Where fill weight comes from
- Fill weight is not the jar's fluid ounces. An 8 fl oz jar holds 237 ml, and wax at about 0.9 g per ml fills it brim-full at 213 g. The 191 g default is that jar filled to roughly 90 percent, leaving headroom below the rim.
- Weigh one poured candle to fix the figure for a jar you use often: pour to the line you like, subtract the empty jar, and use that number for every batch afterwards.
- Add for the pot. Wax clinging to the melter and pour jug is 3 to 5 percent gone, so order 10.6 lb rather than 10.08.
Frequently asked questions
How much wax do I need for twelve 8 oz jars?
2,292 g, or 5.05 lb, at 191 g of wax per jar. Order a little over that: some wax always stays in the melting pot.
How many candles does 10 lb of wax make?
About 23 eight-ounce jars. Ten pounds is 4,536 g, and at 191 g each that is 23.7 candles before pot losses.
Does an 8 oz candle contain 8 oz of wax?
No. The 8 oz describes the jar's fluid capacity, not weight. Wax is lighter than water and the jar is not filled to the brim, so the wax inside is nearer 6.7 oz.
